My opion is that Kobe's 81 is very overrated. You Kobe fans act like Kobe scored 101 %26amp; broke the record. His 81 points comes in SECOND! I mean do you see this years Chicago Bears fans %26amp; last years Dallas Mavs fans walking around bragging about how their teams season ended? That'll be a BIG FAT NO! Why? Because those teams lost %26amp; had to settle for SECOND! and so do Kobe's 81. The RECORD is 100!( Kobe's 81 SETTLES FOR SECOND!)......and it also was a non-televised game(unless you lived in L.A. or had the NBA Package) against a non-contending team that was rated in the bottom 3 teams for defense.....and yes, being non-televised makes a difference. Because when it's LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION TIME, everywhere you look you see the media, the stadium is sold out, everyone is playing hard for a title, %26amp; the world is watching. That'll be considered the BIG STAGE! And their's been alot who chokes on the BIG STAGE(including Kobe, 2006 Game 7, Kobe scores 1 point in the 2nd half %26amp; lose) The BIG STAGE!

First, Kobe is a selfish player.
BUT, take this from someone who has played the game at a high level... 81 is an event. The guy ahead of him was 7 feet playing around guys about 6-8 trying to guard him. He got the ball nearly every posession. Hell I think he had like 30 rebounds that game.
Thats an absolutely great game that we will NEVER see in the NBA again.
Kobe is 6-7. If you youtube the game theres a "81-in 2 minutes" clip showing how he did it. It is amazing because he did a lot of it from the perimeter. AND they were actually behind for a part of it and he brought them back for the win.
Like him or not, I'd like to see any of you score 81 in a rec league game against a bunch of stiffs. This guy did it against NBA players trying to hold a lead.
GIve the man his respect. He's one of the top 5 players in the NBA. Second in single game scoring? Yes. But remember, even the GOAT (MJ) never hit for 81.

Quit hating Kobe. It's the 2nd highest out of over 6,000,000 individual games. The Mavs and Bears came in second out of 30 to 32 teams. That makes the number of people beaten... Mavs- 28, Bears- 30, Kobe- over 6 million. Hater or not, you cannot say that Kobe's second is equivalent to the Mavs or Bears second. Oh, and by the way, Kobe didn't choke... He should have taken over, but he didn't shoot because he wanted to keep his teammates involved and he had been struggling.
And Makara makes a good point about Chamberlain, just towering everyone and laying it in instead of making tough shots like KB24.

Kobe does try to get his players involved, but when you got guys like Radmanovic and Smush Parker missing wide open jump shots and fumbling passes on the break, sometimes he has to take over. Remember too, before Kobe really got going on his way to 81, the Lakers were trailing.

I think I know why you feel this way. It's because your and James W's boy, Michael Jordan, was unable to score that many points in a game. As a matter of fact, Jordan never even scored as many as 70 points in one game, despite having MANY non-televised games.
'Raptor fan", don't let it bother you. I've put the truth before James W. MANY TIMES, and the idiot STILL doesn't get it! Jordan was one of the biggest chokes EVER on "the big stage." These guys just refuse to admit it.
So, the typical "Jordan fan" response is too put down someone elses accomplishments, so "their boy" Jordan doesn't look as bad. Trust me on this. If it was Michael Jordan who scored the 81 points, it would have been the greatest moment in sports history (as opposed to James W's vote for MJ's 63 points in a double overtime LOSING CAUSE). At least Kobe's team won the game!

With the way the NBA runs today, it's impossible for anyone to score that many points unless it was a deliberate plan. The only way someone can score that many points is if the coach orders the entire team to give him every shot. This kind of thing DOES NOT happen naturally. And considering what kind of guy Phil Jackson is, I'm positive that's exactly what he did. So scoring 81 was not really Kobe's accomplishment, it was a team accomplishment.
Wilt's 100 may have been a different story. The entire season he'd been putting up scores in the 60s and 70s. It's possible that his teammates wanted to see if he could break 100, and helped set him up for that by choice. I don't know for sure.
here is the thing .. and up front I am not a Kobe fan he scored the 81 on my team.
Any way the thing is when teams come in second i happens every year but to come in to a record from like 50 years ( I am not sure ) its a big thing an amazing show of talent ... you can hate all you want but either way its still incredible.
